Todd Iaeger (Underwriters Laboratories (UL)) Lithium batteries focused on the concerns encountered by both the fire service and consumer, as well as code requirements associated with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) installations. This presentation provides an overview of Lithium Battery utilization within the built environment increasingly encountered by the fire service with focus on Energy Storage System (ESS) requirements (inclusive of fire alarm system integration). Various requirements, enforcement tools, resource information, best practices, and methodologies found within the framework of Building and Fire Codes, and various technical standards will be discussed covered during the session.

(Siemens Smart Infrastructure) 2021 IBC low frequency signaling requirements in multi-occupant residential R-1 (hotels) and R2 (apartments) occupancies.  120VAC smoke alarms are no longer a viable design option in sleeping units.  This new code is currently enforced in NJ & DE, next year in PA.
